Man in A Case is inspired by observing people’s subtle facial expressions. People wear different masks (personas) under various circumstances. Even though sometimes wearing a mask is necessary, it may lead to the loss of people’s true identity. Hence, I want my audience to reinspect themselves, confront who they really are and not to live with tags and definitions, especially the persona people forcing on themselves. I started with clay to etch out four original figures wearing various ski masks. I then reproduced a dozen of these figures using molds. I draw on these sculptures to give them a different persona, just like creating different masks for them. At the same time, taking advantage of technology, I am working on interactive media and moving pictures through JavaScript on a mobile platform with gravity perception technology. I depicted several personas that people are trying to repress and hide or to aggressively express.
